Review by Spa & Wellness MexiCaribe
Located in the exclusive neighborhood of Polanco, W Mexico City, famous for its urban and avant-garde style, is the place where DJs, designers and renowned artists regularly present their work. Its eclectic style is visible from the crystalline facade accompanied by its colorful murals on gray concrete walls.
In the lobby you are welcomed by an iconic inverted pyramid surrounded by contrasts. Materials and textures such as metal, ceramics and plastic merge harmoniously with the accents of color distributed around the hotel. Traditional figures of Mexican culture such as the jaguar and lucha libre come back to life as part of the W’s decoration.
Located on the fourth floor of this modern enclosure, is the Away Spa. To match the essence of the W, the Away Spa is filled with vibrant colors. Whilst small, the spa has a full menu of facials, massages and body treatments in addition to manicure and pedicure services. It offers 5 treatment rooms, including one for couples, and a mixed relaxation area with hydrotherapy, Jacuzzi, steam room and sauna.
The most prominent feature of the spa, reflecting its Mexican inspiration, is the indoor Temazcal, one of a kind in the Mexico City area. Decorated by traditional zarapes at the entrance, you can make use of the temazcal service individually or in groups of up to 10 people. You can also elevate your experience by scheduling a special ritual performed by a shaman.
To complement your visit, the Away Spa’s juice bar is at your disposal. You can try their energy juice shots; my favorite was the coconut and apple. Enjoy these before your routine in the FIT Gym located on the same floor or at one of the terraces overlooking the elegant neighborhood.
The W Mexico City is the perfect reflection of capital city life: urban and trendy but rooted in the Mexican culture and tradition. The Away Spa is a place to relax and enjoy, secluded from Mexico City’s constant hustle and bustle.
