Review by Spa & Wellness MexiCaribe
You know you’re onto something special when you enter the only privately owned tunnel in Mexico lit with chandeliers and gas lamps. The tunnel separates the town of Cabo San Lucas, at the southern tip of the Baja Peninsula of Mexico, from the ocean and leads to the Capella Resort. Known world-wide with eight resorts in beautiful destinations, Capella is the epitome of luxury with each property designed as an extension of its surroundings. At the end of the tunnel, the dramatic entrance to Capella Cabo San Lucas provides a panoramic view of the Pacific Ocean in all its splendor, with the resort built into the mountainside of Pedregal. This exhibits an outstanding example of what creativity and ingenuity can achieve with 96 rooms and suites and three restaurants, plus the Auriga Spa.
The resort is named after Capella, the brightest star in the Auriga constellation and, like wishing on a star, you are catapulted into a realm of magnificent indulgence. Your every wish is their command.
Once inside the Auriga Spa, you are enveloped in a cocoon-like ambiance. Your health, wellness and care lies with the highly trained staff. Ten round private treatment rooms that open to an outdoor spa lagoon pool and ocean beyond are designed to bring the fresh ocean air into the pod-like dwellings. Moon-inspired signature treatments depend on the cycle of the moon. The four phases of the moon—New, Full, Waxing and Waning – impact the body in many ways. The four treatments are designed to reflect the varying energies of the lunar cycle and the phases of the moon, and are only offered when the treatment corresponds to the moon’s particular stage to ensure the most profound experience for the guest.
Mexican folk healing is alive and well at Auriga. A Mexican Spa Experience draws from the ancient traditions and culture of the region to provide a relaxing, reflective and revitalizing experience. Starting with a welcome foot cleansing ritual using special herbs to purify, guests are then led into the grotto area to take advantage of the steam rooms, saunas, ice rooms and whirlpools. A private consultation determines your specific wants, needs and desires, and ensures your wellbeing and satisfaction in obtaining a balance of energy and release of tension throughout your body. Body therapies might include a Green Coffee Body Sculpting with alternating heat and cold stimulants to rid excess water accumulation. The Sea Ritual soothes sore muscles and joints with a sea algae mud pack, or the Healing Ocean Cocoon is designed to release stress with an exfoliating seaweed scrub, a white-algae body mask and finally a warm sea-shell massage. A couple’s suite is available for shared treatments with private outdoor pool. Facial services are also available with specific treatments recommended after a consultation. A pool-side spa menu includes a foot or hand and arm massage using organic Shea butter balm, or a scalp treatment with warm Vitamin E oil ending with a cool water rinse. A day at the spa would not be complete without indulging in a gourmet lunch or dinner at either the Beach Grill, Don Manuel’s fine dining or El Farallon, the cliff-side seafood restaurant.
A full-service salon commissioned by famed New York stylist, Julien Farel, offers all services for hair, makeup, manicures and pedicures, waxing and tweezing, and special packages for the bride and groom. A fitness center is outfitted with Advanced Technogym equipment with classes available for personal training, individual yoga and other specialized classes
