Arriving at Grand Solmar Resort’s Sea Spa is an experience in itself. Located where the land virtually ends at the tip of the Baja of Mexico and nestled amid natural rock formations, four spa cabanas are elevated, built on stilts high above the sandy beach with palm-thatched, palapa roofs.
A gentle walkway leads up to the four cabanas, each with a breath-taking view from private terraces overlooking the Sea of Cortés. Arrive early to take advantage of the steam room and seawater pool. Once given a locker and wrapped in a luxurious robe, a comfy lounge chair or lounge bed on the terrace beckons on which to relax before and after your treatment while gazing at the ocean. From December to April you might witness a show of migrating whales that come to frolic in the warm waters where the Pacific Ocean meets the Sea of Cortés.
All the senses are taken into consideration from the moment you enter as the slightly sweet aroma of lavender reaches you and draws you in to the sanctuary of the spa. The spa menu incorporates a food pairing with each treatment to enhance the taste buds while anticipating the pampering experiences to come. The spa uses fruits, vegetables and herbs in its treatments, including coconut mint sugar scrubs and mango body wraps along with watermelon papaya body butter. There is no piped-in music, only the soothing sounds of the ocean caressing the shore line a few feet below.
A special iced tea is served along with a cucumber gazpacho, then a tomato, watermelon and panela cheese skewer and a dark beer. After a 110-minute personalized oxygenating massage combined with an organic facial using healing herbs to revitalize and restore the skin to its proper balance, enjoy a delicious green sea bass ceviche, topped off with dessert of peach crumble a la mode and dessert wine. And then do nothing. Simply take in the sea in front of you. This is luxury at its best. Side-by-side treatment rooms are ideal for couples as well as special mommy-to-be treatments for pregnant women. The Sea Spa is one of two spas within the resort, the other located on the beach with five cabanas, as well as a beauty salon.
