Zaitania Spa

Review by Spa & Wellness MexiCaribe

Bogota is known as “the lady of the shining mountain”. The Muisca were the indigenous inhabitants of the region and called the settlement where Bogota was founded Bacata, which in the Chibcha language means “the lady of the Andes.”

As the capital and largest city of Colombia, it’s the political, economic and industrial center of the country, and is located on a high plateau at 2,640 meters above sea level. Standing proud in the north of the city is the Grand Hyatt Bogota, a brand-new hotel with open, airy rooms overlooking one of the town’s business hot spots. The floor-to-ceiling windows in the suites overlook the gardens, the bright lights of the metropolis and over to the cloud-topped Andes.

The Grand Hyatt is also home to the Zaitania Spa, where they have dedicated an entire floor solely to spa and wellness with a well-equipped gym boasting excellent views over the city. Zaitania, which in the Muisca language means “the beginning of the world” is a sanctuary created, in their words “to rejuvenate their guests, energize their soul and ultimately reconnect with the best version of themselves.”

Zaitania Spa is the largest urban spa in Latin America and features a mixed gender hydrotherapy area with hot Jacuzzi, cold pool and sensorial pool with jets and water cascades for the back. In each changing area, there is a spacious sauna and steam room with two levels of heat. A semi-olympic lap pool with floor-to-ceiling windows and a beautiful glass roof allows guests to swim with an alfresco feel.

The eleven treatment suites comprise six singles, two ‘Vichy’ shower suites and three couples suites arranged around a tranquil central relaxation area, gently lit creating an ambiance of calm. The Vichy shower experiences include a marmalade exfoliation, either sugar-based or salt-based. They also utilize a local Arabic coffee and cocoa bean product. Organic body wraps include gold and champagne, green coffee, citrus fruits and real palm.

The atmosphere in the spa is luxurious yet unintimidating, the service is timely and well-polished. The treatments are delivered professionally and with the added touch of choosing your own aromatherapy preference. Natural local products, as well as international products are used in the treatments.

The spa offers phyto-aromatic facials for all skin types, a variety of salon services, eight classic massages, plus their signature massage service. The 80-minute Zaitania Massage combines various techniques such as craniosacral massage, shiatsu, hot stones and reflexology, and was beautifully executed in the comfortable and well-equipped treatment suite.
