Spa Experience: Away Spa at W Punta de Mita

Located between the jungle and the sea of the Riviera Nayarit, W Punta de Mita surprises you on arrival with a stunning mosaic pathway created using 751,184 tiles incorporating Huichol icons such as eagles, snakes and the eye of God. The mosaic begins at the lobby and continues through the resort to a viewpoint overlooking the sea. It represents the path of life, rising and falling, until the soul transcends to the next life in front of the Huichol goddess of the sea, Haramara.

The cultural elements of design continue throughout the property, highlighting the connection to local traditions present during the creation of the resort where a Huichol ceremony was performed to request permission from mother nature for its construction. This concept also extends into their gastronomic offering with a blend of local and international cuisine such as the Chevycheria, a ceviches food truck and the Spice Market where Southeast Asian cuisine is fused with spices and ingredients of Mexican origin.

Inspired by the entrance of a cave, Away Spa has cool stone floors and a majestic chandelier with glass flowers highlighting the colors of sunset. The facilities include an extensive hydrotherapy circuit with a sauna and steam room in addition to an open air ice chute, hot and cold immersion pools and a variety of hydromassage jets for the neck, back, legs and head allowing you to connect with nature during the experience. The spa also has a beauty salon for manicures, pedicures and hair styling. The Scrub Bar allows you to personalize body exfoliators to use back in your room; natural ingredients mean guests can easily replicate this at home! There is also a fitness center and relaxation terrace, where yoga classes are performed overlooking the jungle.

Based on the theme ‘Detox. Retox. Repeat.’ the signature treatment, Zen Away begins with a hand exfoliation before a hot stone massage incorporating hot towels and rosemary and lavender essential oils. The Journey continues with an AHA body peel and then a seaweed-based body wrap, while a scalp, neck and foot massage to revive tired legs is performed. This is followed by a facial including an algae mask with ginseng, white clay, coal and cedar facial oil. The treatment continues with a guided meditation on the relaxation terrace, incorporating a drum and jicuri handpan tambourine, and ending with a gratitude ceremony at the labyrinth, a meditative walk via a winding path leading to a central stone flower decoration.
