A resort company at the forefront of wellness travel in Mexico, is the family-owned Velas Group of properties. Leading the way now for three years with their innovative ‘Wellnessing Getaways’, Grand Velas Resorts sets the scene for wellness and self-care while still providing for fun, extravagant and more indulgent experiences like dining, wine tasting and tequila or mezcal sampling.
The signature spa at Grand Velas Riviera Nayarit, ‘Se’, offers a complete hydrotherapy ritual before any spa experience. Guided by an attendant, guests enjoy the sauna, ice chute, steam room, Jacuzzi, cold plunge and reflexology pools before proceeding to their spa treatment suite.
The Sacred Feminine Ritual is a unique treatment based on energetic healing principles. The guest wears loose pyjamas and lays atop a low mattress. The therapist reads the guest’s energy and using hand placement and strong pressure with the palms of the hand and fingers, treats the energetic needs of that specific guest. The treatment will vary from guest to guest as the therapist is allowed the freedom to customize the service based on her intuition, what the guest needs on that day and where any blocks lay along the energy meridians of the body.
I relaxed into the treatment almost immediately and entered a deep meditative state. Upon finishing the meditative massage experience I was presented with a flower ‘corona’, or crown, and a small dream catcher. The therapist advised me that she had created the dreamcatcher earlier that day, while meditating on what my needs may be for the treatment, my dreams for the future and my hopes and desires. In essence, it was infused with care and love; I felt deeply taken care of when I left the spa and went for a dip in the fresh ocean outside to revive. To this day, the dreamcatcher hangs by my bedside, serving as a reminder of this powerful and sacred ritual of femininity.
Pilar Perciavalle, the resort’s General Manager, aims to offer people an experience of disconnection and peace while they reconnect with themselves at Velas Resorts.
