“In Wayak Spa, Viceroy Riviera Maya we apply sustainability in two ways. In the hydrotherapy areas, we have eliminated water bottles and offer fresh water in a dispenser for the guests to serve themselves. We save approximately 250 to 300 bottles of water in the spa monthly, which represents a saving of more than $100 US dollars per month.
Another initiative we have is to recycle the glass containers used in the restaurants, once they are emptied, washed and then sterilized we use the container to sell organic exfoliant prepared in the spa by our Shaman, as well as offering samples of oils, creams and aloe vera gel. This reduces the accumulation of glass that was destined for the garbage and saves new packaging being used for these products. The cost of these containers is about 50 cents and this represents a savings of $150 per month.”
