As you arrive at the renowned Jamaica Inn, you are immediately welcomed ‘home’. Whether you are a returning guest or a first time visitor, the staff invite you to feel comfortable in your surroundings, and go out of their way to ensure you do just that during your stay.
The timelessly elegant Jamaica Inn has been in operation since 1950 and has welcomed royalty, politicians and celebrities alike, who enjoy the intimacy and privacy the resort provides. The 48 suites and cottages, decorated and painted in crisp white and Wedgewood blue encircle a small, secluded bay on the outskirts of Ocho Rios (‘Ochy’ to the locals). Each suite is afforded spectacular views of the turquoise blue Caribbean Sea.
The Ocean Spa is nestled on a cliff edge to one side of the resort overlooking the ocean and the next bay along the coastline. With 3 spa suites overlooking the ocean and one in the garden just behind, there is no need for music as the sound of crashing ocean waves and an occasional tropical bird is all you can hear during your spa treatment.
Choose from a variety of massages, body exfoliations and wraps, facials, salon services, day packages and couples experiences and relax in the warm breeze and absorb the beauty of the surroundings.
The Jamaica Inn boasts a variety of wellness experiences at the resort, including kayaking, paddle boarding and tennis. A croquet lawn sits in the center of the gardens, with a resident ‘croquet expert’ who can either challenge you to a match or teach you some skills!
The resort also offers guided market tours with the Executive Chef. Guests can visit the local markets, tasting the fruits, seasonings and ingredients. They learn about organic, homegrown produce followed by a live cooking demonstration and group dinner together with the Executive Chef Maurice Henry.
In 2016, the beachside bar was renamed Teddy’s Bar, after Teddy who had worked at the resort for 58 years. This is not uncommon as, during our stay, we met several staff members who had been with the resort for decades, providing it with a true ‘family feel’.
This year Jamaica Inn is launching ‘Wellness Week’, to be held September 18th – 24th. The week includes wellness activities such as yoga, reggaelates, fitness activates, spa experiences, nutrition, tours and seminars. The wellness week also offers guests an all-inclusive healthy option meal plan and special rates can be extended for a maximum of 4 nights outside the retreat dates for those looking to add some extra relaxation time to their stay.
