Spa Review: Mahekal Beach Resort, Mexico

The Mahekal Beach Resort is located in the town of Playa del Carmen, just steps from the north end of its famous 5th avenue. With 800 feet of beachfront and 196 guest rooms, including individual Palapa style bungalows and premium suites just steps from the water’s edge, the Mayan inspired, Revive Spa at Mahekal Beach Resort is set among lush tropical gardens of the resort. The spa offers a variety of experiences such as body wraps, exfoliations, facials, massages, couples journeys and signature treatments in addition to beauty services and yoga classes. Treatments at Revive Spa incorporate native Mayan culture and indigenous homegrown ingredients like medicinal herbs, aloe and copal incense. Revive Spa is laid out in a round configuration imitating the philosophy of the Mayans.

Encompassing 2,500 square feet, guests are soothed with the sounds of water and wind chimes. Bohemian gypsy designs create a welcoming ambience infused with colorful Mexican accents, antique wood furniture, subtle lighting, louvered windows and a palapa style roof. Above the central elevated platform is a fiber optic lit ceiling, reminiscent of glowing stars, that guests can enjoy as they relax, pre or post treatment in the warm Jacuzzi.

Palapa-style treatment rooms and two relaxation rooms await guests with refreshments, aromatic scents and soothing music. A separate and completely private VIP therapy room is perfect for couples, brides or private groups and boasts a dedicated bath area, an indoor and outdoor shower, a freestanding bathtub and private access to the artfully manicured Zen Garden.

I recommend trying the ‘Angel Veil Massage with Crystal Quartz’. A peaceful and spiritual combination of relaxing massage with reiki therapy (a channeling technique and transmission of vital energy through the laying on of hands) and quartz crystal helping to open and unblock the 7 chakras, restore the body to balance, physically and emotionally.
